What we cover in the Basic Pistol Shooting Course- 2 days of instruction
There are no prerequisites for this class. Anyone can sign-up for this class no experience necessary.
Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling
Identify the principal parts of a pistol and the types of pistol actions.
Explain and apply the NRA rules for safe gun handling.
Demonstrate how to handle a pistol in a safe manner.
Ammunition Knowledge and Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
Identify the different components of a pistol cartridge and its firing sequence.
Explain how to properly identify and store ammunition.
Identify the major types of cartridge malfunctions & how to react to them.
Explain the fundamentals of pistol shooting.
Scoring targets and maintaining your pistol
Basic guidelines for selecting and purchasing a pistol.
Materials needed to clean a pistol & how to safely clean it.
Continued Opportunities for skill development
Identify several ways to pursue pistol shooting after course.
Successfully complete the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course written exam.
Shooting Positions and Shooting Qualification (at Redmond Rod and Gun Club)
Day 2: Approximately 2-3 hours live fire at the range
Demonstrate and assume the bench rest shooting position.
Demonstrate and assume the isosceles shooting position.
Shoot the qualification course.
